Eat the Seasons
Strawberries
Our local strawberry season is in full swing and we have an extra pail of 'em in the fridge. What's a Canadian cook to do?
When we take the whole family strawberry picking, we can easily end up bringing home a lot more berries than we actually need. At first, this never seems to be a problem. We indulge in giant bowls of strawberries with a bit of whipped cream on top. We do some baking. We make jam. And then suddenly it becomes too hot to do much of anything even though there’s one last basket in the fridge just begging to be used. What’s a Canadian cook to do?
How about:
In the end we just crushed our leftover berries and poured the resulting “syrup” over vanilla ice cream. It was a delicious and decadent (not to mention simple) way to end a summer meal.
